We needed Steamclock Software to build and operate a version of their popular iOS game on Reddit and update the game mechanics to take advantage of Reddit's unique platform.

Steamclock Software ported their PvP game into a subreddit and integrated core features of Reddit's Developer Platform into the in-game experience. The team handled all aspects of the porting process.

Someone referred Steamclock Software to me. I chose them over other options because they were a great culture fit, and their company values aligned with ours. Additionally, they had made a popular game we wanted to bring to our platform.

Steamclock Software delivered demoable milestones of the game, followed by the initial beta launch. The project wrapped up with a feature on the front page of Reddit. The game was well received by Redditors, as we noticed positive feedback and high participation.

Steamclock Software has provided software development expertise to build our app based on our Figma designs. We’ve worked with Steamclock Software’s engineers and project manager to tweak the designs and improve the app.Steamclock Software has provided us with a comprehensive view of the languages we should use. We’ve used Kotlin and Swift in a unique way to support our business.

We’ve worked with three engineers, a project manager, the head of technology, and one of the company's co-owners.

We found Steamclock Software by doing a comprehensive search of all the app development companies in the US and Canada. We also looked in Europe and Eastern Europe. We decided to go with a company closer to home because we wanted to have a company in the same time zone as us. We did a bunch of Google searches and made a big Excel spreadsheet of all the companies. We went through all of them and found the ones that were developing apps and had a good track record and good reviews on Clutch and other places. We talked to quite a few of them and narrowed it down to Steamclock Software.

We started working together in April 2024, and our engagement is ongoing. We launched the app on iOS in the Fall of 2025, and we’re still building additional features and doing bug fixes.

Although we have just launched, we have a 4.7-star rating with 50 reviews on the App Store. We also have several thousand downloads. Steamclock Software’s work is really good. The team has provided us with valuable feedback on areas where we can improve. Steamclock Software considers everything from a design perspective, not just an engineering one.

Steamclock Software is efficient at accomplishing tasks. We haven’t had any rework that required us to go back and fix things. The team runs a tight ship and ensures we are aware of what they’re working on. Steamclock Software has laid out all the features and designs, so everything gets done efficiently. We haven’t had any issues where anything was built that wasn’t meant to be built. The team is really professional; they know what they’re doing. I would work with them again without a doubt.

Steamclock Software has provided valuable feedback on areas where the designs could be tweaked or improved to make everything more cost-effective or efficient. The process has been straightforward, and we’ve had high-quality conversations with the team.

I don’t think there’s anything they can improve on. They’re a really good shop, and I hope they keep doing what they’re doing because it’s great.

Work with a designer. Try to complete as much work as possible to finalize your designs before presenting them to a group of developers. The last thing you want to do is rework or modify stuff that’s already been built. It’s expensive enough just to build things the first time, so it’s best to spend the effort and money on proper design ahead of time. Make sure everything is locked down exactly the way you like it, and then you can go to a place like Steamclock Software for them to build it.

We needed to provide quick and sensible native changes to a mobile hybrid application.

Our applications weren't in parity from a feature point of view, so Steamclock Software has helped provide a common experience for customers on the web, iOS, or Android. The team has also introduced authentication support, MSAL, unified login, and integrations. Regarding features, the team has updated our iOS app's language selector workflow to support globalization, introduced MSAL support, added photo uploads, and provided MDM support. For Android, the team has added a download manager, introduced MSAL support, added a custom sign-in bypass, and provided printing and MDM support.

We haven't noticed any changes in the app ratings, but we have seen a positive trend in customer feedback, support tickets, and customer sentiment.

I’m the founder of XLB Systems, an technology products studio with clients worldwide. We help bring early-stage technology ideas to market through strategy, design, and production services.

We needed to build a prototype app to get market feedback quickly about an AI product idea.

Steamclock Software did all the creative brainstorming with us. They were responsible for the mobile app design work, API technical evaluation and requirements definition, technical and project planning, prototyping work, and any other key work necessary to deliver a working iOS app that we could do targeted user acquisition and user testing with. The main deliverables were ideation boards to capture creative brainstorming work and decisions, early test flight builds of the app UI, and a fully working iOS app in the Apple App Store.

I knew Allen, the founder, from local developer meetups. I had successfully engaged Steamclock Software on several product explorations when I was CPO at Mozilla in the past. The team was exceptional and able to work with both low-guidance projects and requirements-heavy projects equally well. They had a well-honed, structured process for how they made things, yet they brought a level of excitement and creativity to their projects that I rarely found in other contractor studios.

The test builds checked off feature requirements and were suitable for user testing. We looked at NPS and retention metrics, primarily, but also just how much joy using the app brought us.

Steamclock Software had superb project management with excellent meeting note-taking and creation and tracking of action items. They always delivered on time. We communicated via Slack and weekly video conference calls.

The brainstorming process was amazing. They really got into the why of a feature to understand it and then best design the solution.

We needed help with custom software design and app development.

Steamclock Software provided custom software design and app development services. Initially, we had a consultation to develop the project scope and timeline. They introduced us to the individuals who would be involved in the project, and we went through a budgeting and approval process.

We worked with an iOS developer, an Android developer, a producer, and a graphic designer. We also worked with a senior developer who oversaw the entire team.

We found them through a Google search. We liked the content they presented on their website. That progressed into a first meeting and an introduction and overview of the project we had in mind. We felt their answers were very comprehensive and matched our requirements.

We spent approximately $2 million CAD.

We worked together from January 2017–September 2024.

By the conclusion of the project, we had over 2 million downloads.

The team's communication was always excellent and very interactive. We used Slack, Zoom, and Asana. We also used GitHub and had a cadence of regular meetings. They did everything they could to stay within the budget since it was a moving target.

The quality of the product was excellent, and we were impressed with their holistic approach. They anticipated things that we would've never thought of ourselves. They looked at our total business and tried to optimize it.

At times, I wished the turnaround time was faster. However, they were a busy agency, so I’m not sure they could've done much more about that.

Let them show their expertise. Present the problem you’re trying to solve or what you’re trying to create, and allow them to understand that. Instead of trying to share your idea of the best solution, allow them to be creative and collaborative in achieving the most desirable result.
