Scalefocus provided Java and DevOps experts who maintained ISP (International Sportsbetting Platform) and Betradar backend-microservices. I’m the technology and integration manager of Sopharma Trading, a pharmaceutical wholesaler and retailer that adheres to the highest standards – manufacturing, business, ethical, and beyond – to create reliable healthcare solutions with a positive impact on people's lives.

We hired Scalefocus to replace our outdated and heavily customized SAP Hybris-based POS platform with a modern, stable, and scalable solution for more than 200 retail outlets. Our objectives were to eliminate recurring downtime, improve performance, reduce maintenance costs, support integrations with SAP and multiple state systems, and implement pharmaceutical-specific functionality. The new platform also needed to provide a solid foundation for future growth and regional expansion.

Scalefocus has designed and implemented a modern, industry-specific POS solution for more than 200 retail outlets, replacing our outdated and heavily customized SAP Hybris-based platform. The scope includes a custom front end, SAP integration, connectivity with four state systems, and specialized functionality for prescription medicines and pharmacy operations. The team has also established an on-premises architecture based on Kubernetes, Java, and Angular, supported by a CI/CD pipeline. Scalefocus has built the custom POS front end and developed the pharmacy-specific functionalities required for our retail operations, including features related to prescription medicines. The team has also designed and implemented the supporting Java- and Angular-based solution architecture and the on-premises CI/CD setup. At the integration layer, Scalefocus has connected the platform with our existing SAP landscape and four external state systems. Existing enterprise systems remain in place, while Scalefocus has customized the POS solution and its interfaces to work reliably within Sopharma Trading’s broader technology environment.

The clearest measurable outcome is operational stability: since the implementation, we’ve experienced zero unplanned POS system downtime. Annual support and maintenance costs have also been reduced. The new platform has enabled reliable daily operations across more than 250 retail pharmacies, including integrations with SAP and four state systems, while providing the scalability needed to support future growth and regional expansion. We’ve seen clear qualitative improvements in system responsiveness, usability, and the reliability of daily pharmacy operations. The custom front end has simplified the user experience, while the new architecture and integrations have reduced operational interruptions and supported more consistent transaction processing across our retail network. Another important success indicator is the platform’s ability to support consistent operations across more than 250 pharmacies while handling the complex requirements of pharmaceutical retail, including integrations with SAP and four state systems. The solution has also established a scalable technical foundation for future development and regional expansion. Although these benefits haven’t been measured through formal KPIs, the combination of zero unplanned downtime, lower support costs, reliable daily operations, and improved scalability demonstrates the project’s overall success.

Scalefocus manages the project using an Agile delivery model with regular planning cycles, clear priorities, and frequent communication. Their team works closely with our internal stakeholders, responds quickly when requirements or priorities change, and maintains good transparency throughout the engagement. Delivery is consistent and aligned with the agreed timelines, and any adjustments are communicated and managed effectively. We communicate with Scalefocus through in-person meetings, virtual meetings, and emails or messaging apps.

What we’re most impressed with is Scalefocus’s combination of strong engineering expertise, accountability, and genuine understanding of our business objectives. They’ve been able to manage a technically complex pharmaceutical retail environment while remaining flexible as priorities evolve. Their team has integrated naturally with our internal teams and approached the project as a long-term partner rather than simply a technology supplier.

There aren’t any significant areas where Scalefocus has underperformed.
