I am a Marketing Executive for a company in the Technology & Venture Capital Industry. We invest in high-growth technology companies with global ambitions, with offices in London, Cambridge, and Dublin. We are listed on the London Stock Exchange and are a constituent of the FTSE 250 Index.

We started to rebrand the company, which needed a new website that was much better than our previous one to match the new branding and voice. We needed to build two websites that speak to our two different audiences - Entrepreneurs & the VC industry and our Investors. We hired Fishfinger to design, build and maintain our new website.

I had been recommended several web developers and had also done some research into finding companies based in London who could be fit for the job. Then created a scorecard based on the proposals they sent on how they would each tackle building the website.

We started with research meetings with the Fishfinger team across our company, so they could understand all needs and expectations of the website. We then went into building wireframes, creating logical pathways and information architecture of many different pages. While we were still finalising detailing on our branding, Fishfinger was very adaptable to work with what we had and not the finished product. This allowed us to keep progressing with the website development and sticking to our tight schedule.

The consistency and look of the website are much improved, many people internally and externally are much happier. It is much easier to find key information, review analytics, update and manage, and we are constantly building and improving the site with Fishfinger.

We communicate via email, have weekly calls with the team using Microsoft teams, we use Trello boards to track projects and use slack to communicate quickly.

After the website launched - managing and prioritising the list of inbound requests such as new ideas, updates and fixes that had been flagged by different people across the company - understanding that some things took longer than others in terms of what was a quick fix and a longer development. We were able to fix this by using Trello to proactively manage items and keep everyone up to date with progress. Perhaps would have been good to use this earlier to avoid initial issues.

I think being more clear with what to expect for deliverables would be an area for improvement. I think I had some confusion about the expected work product when the rough drafts were amazing and came with lots of add-ons and marketing assets, but the final draft included a similar number of deliverables at a similar work quality as the drafts.But I think I was expecting the opposite, where the rough drafts are supposed to be more "rough" and minimal and then more comprehensive work is supposed to be put into the final draft.
