I’m the founder and executive director of DiverseCity, a youth development organization that uses sports as a vehicle to connect young people of all different races, religions, nationalities, and backgrounds. Our program intends to bring together youth who otherwise wouldn’t have had the opportunity of meeting to grow together and get along.

All of our programs had been in person until the COVID-19 pandemic, when we started moving them to a virtual platform. We brought in ChopDawg.com to develop an app that would allow us to connect the youth we work with in different cities.

ChopDawg.com is developing a mobile app for us. We provided information to jumpstart the project, and they gave us samples of similar projects they’ve done to give us an idea of what to expect. They provided a detailed scope of work that was over 100-pages long. We had several exchanges back and forth to tweak requirements for a few weeks. Our respective lawyers also looked over the scope.

We’ve met with several teammates from ChopDawg.com, including Joshua (CEO), Mattie (COO), a QA coordinator, and Tammy (CXO), who oversees project management and billing. We work directly with Kaitlyn (UI/UX Designer) and Madeline (Project Manager) on the design side. We’ll also be working with developers in the next few weeks.

We found them through word of mouth. A mutual friend recommended Joshua and told me he’d built up ChopDawg.com to be a known and respected business worldwide. I had an introductory call with Joshua. We came into this project as true beginners, and the educational piece that ChopDawg.com provided was better than what we’d had interviewing other companies. While other vendors felt like factories churning out apps that weren’t invested in the details, Joshua provided a personal touch.

We’ve spent about $75,000, and we’ll spend another $30,000. The project’s total cost will be around $105,000–$110,000.

ChopDawg.com has done everything they said they would do. Moreover, they’ve stuck to the timeline and have been very diligent about keeping us on track. We’ll transition from design to development and track how smooth the process is and whether we stay on time and budget.

I’ve worked with other vendors, and my partner comes from the service provider world; we’re both impressed with their project management. For example, we had early questions about things we anted in the scope that weren’t included initially. The team used their project management protocol to help us work it out, and we reached an understanding to have what we wanted while not drifting too far from the scope.

ChopDawg.com’s distinguishing factor is their level of professionalism and likeability. Every person on their team has been supportive and delightful to work with. When we’re in the weeds, we want to work with people we get along with, and ChopDawg.com’s team has been kind, respectful, and concerned about the project’s progress — they genuinely care about our success.

Early on, there may have been an opportunity to staff up quicker. However, that’s a minor issue because we’re on time and budget.

I’ve spoken to a few interested companies looking to develop apps, and my advice is to be over-communicative. ChopDawg.com is responsive; they get back to us efficiently with the information we need to make decisions.

Scope of Work for the Prototype: The scope of work covered the full creation of a non‑functional, high‑fidelity prototype of the mobile application, including product definition, UX/UI design, user flows, and clickable screens that represent the complete end‑to‑end experience. The engagement included requirements gathering, design workshops, iterative revisions, and delivery of a polished Figma prototype suitable for investor presentations, user testing, and preparation for MVP development.

The project produced a complete, investor‑ready high‑fidelity prototype that allowed us to validate the product concept, run early user tests, and secure multiple investor meetings. We went from a rough idea to a fully mapped feature set, complete user flows, and a clickable Figma prototype that accurately represents the end‑to‑end experience. The deliverables also enabled us to begin technical planning for the MVP, estimate development scope, and align our roadmap. Overall, the prototype materially advanced the product from concept to a tangible, testable asset that supports fundraising and next‑stage development.

Their project management was organized, responsive, and easy to work with. They consistently delivered milestones on time, kept communication clear, and adapted quickly whenever I needed changes or clarification. I always felt heard throughout the process, and they were proactive about checking in, sharing updates, and making sure the prototype aligned with my vision. Overall, they handled the project with professionalism and reliability from start to finish.

What impressed me most was their combination of professionalism, creativity, and responsiveness — they weren’t just executing tasks, they were genuinely thinking with me. One area for improvement would be more proactive internal QA on the prototype. There were moments where I caught small inconsistencies or bugs that the team could have identified and fixed before sending deliverables over. It wasn’t a major issue, but having the designer or PM do an extra pass before handoff would make the process even smoother and reduce the need for client‑side checks.

We explained the core idea to Chop Dawg along with a plan that consisted of just a few sheets of paper. They brought it to life by creating a detailed scope of work that included both a moble and web applicaiton project. The scope of work included the creation of an interactive phone based appilication that would interact with a web application to provide seemless communications within the petcare vertical market.

They started by gaining an working understanding of our industry, business models, and what challenges we were trying to address. From there created user personas to ensure they were capturing the goals and needs of each stakeholder. That demonstated we had a common understanding of the situation we are solving with the application and the stakeholders who we are seeking to engage.

The communicaiton of Chop Dawg was excellent, they assigned an outstanding team that of professionals who each had an area of expertise from design through testing. The owner himself remained involved in the project ensuring that the deliverables were moving forward.

Their approach. It was less about what they knew and more about learning not just the 'what' we wanted to build but the 'why'. They are very honest about what can be done versus what should be done, which helped steer the project development toward a viable product that operated as intended.
