The scope of the project grew a lot, and we didn't manage to deliver in the times we wanted. But this wasn't 10 Pines fault, since we decided to go this route, knowing the consequences.

Project management-wise they are very organized and they are up front with how much time they feel a project might take to deliver. However, it has been the case from time to time that unexpected complexity or an underestimation of time would require us to extend deadlines on projects.

10Pines has the unique combination of high quality thinking and deep skillsets in terms of development that make them great partners to work with provided you, as the client, have a clear idea of what your objectives are and what you want to achieve. They truly think as engineers as opposed to purely as developers, which is a huge plus for an outsourced dev shop.

While they operate at a very high level, more consistency and dialed in estimations of velocity and capacity would help manage expectations better and potentially help make prioritization decisions easier especially if the organization is trying to prioritize speed.

10Pines we’re brought in at the inception of our company and provided a team of talented developers to work with our CPO and Head of Engineering in LA to build our MVP. After MVP we decided to continue the relationship and leverage the team as our ongoing engineering team as we brought on and supported paying customers.

Together, we developed a great platform that was adopted as an industry leading B2B CRM and Order Mgt platform, including being the legal cannabis industry’s only mobile order management platform. Customers love the UI and functionality we created.

The communication with 10Pines was always very transparent and proactive. Deadlines were jointly managed and expectations for both parties were always clear and well understood.

The culture. The team was so open and great at communicating. Any issues were always raised with sufficient communication and also addressed quickly when required.

We regularly followed Extreme Programming Agile practices in our development partnership with 10Pines. During our work together we followed the regular bi-weekly sprint cycle - planning, pointing, executing, measuring, and following-up on the work with retrospectives.

Yes - we worked in an Agile Extreme Programming environment. The team was very dialed into their velocity, and very good at estimating the complexity of new features / fixes.

They really went out of their way to make sure that we were getting the product that we wanted. They cared - deeply - about what we were doing. They loved the product as their own. This showed up in the little things.

I’m the director of engineering for a software company. We provide employee motivation and performance software for other businesses.

I was looking for a company to supplement our engineering team. We needed a company with experience in the technology stack that we use.

10Pines works hand-in-hand with our internal team. They provide engineering services using the technology stack that we use. Their team uses Ruby on Rails.

When we first started with 10Pines, we had three engineers working with us. Over the years, the number of team members fluctuated between 3–5. Currently, we’re working with five people.

I chose 10Pines based on the technology stack. I researched and created a shortlist of companies that seemed to have a team engagement model as well as the experience in Ruby on Rails. We had a call with three companies in total. I felt that 10Pines had a culture that was a good fit for us.

We’re charged on a monthly basis based on the number of hours each engineer works on the project.

We started working together around 2016 and our relationship’s ongoing.

They deliver on their assignments. Their team doesn’t just take the assignments and check them off. They have their thinking caps on and find the best way to solve the task. There’s a feedback loop built in that I appreciate because they’ll point to a better way of completing an assignment.

The vast majority of the engineers that I’ve engaged over the last four years have had good communication skills. There are times when I expect assignments to be done sooner. When they see a task that’s way bigger than I thought it would be, they bring that to my attention.

They have engineers working with other clients who have built up different expertise. When we want to try new technology, they have teammates with that expertise and can provide feedback.

After working with us for a couple of years, their engineers may want to move on to change their skillsets. That’s not always the case but I wish I had more control over that.
